Project Description
This project is part of Canada’s commitment under the Middle East Strategy. The Middle East Field Support Services Project (ME-FSSP) aims to provide essential support in the planning delivery and monitoring of Canada’s expanded international development and humanitarian assistance in Jordan Lebanon Iraq and Syria. The services include expert advice on: (1) analysis on development issues strategies and needs; (2) technical support including gender expertise; (3) project monitoring; and (4) logistical services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved effectiveness and relevance of Global Affairs initiatives to local development challenges plans and priorities particularly the challenges faced by women; and (2) improved efficiency of program and project design and oversight by Global Affairs staff advisors partners and local stakeholders.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) improved effectiveness and relevance of Global Affairs Canada’s (GAC) initiatives in addressing local development challenges plans and priorities particularly challenges faced by women and girls. This is achieved through 2 calls for proposals for small local initiatives in Jordan addressing climate change food security and issues impacting the most marginalized in society. In Iraq the project launched a call for proposal to support local initiatives targeting climate change and food security. It funded 3 local non-governmental organizations. In Lebanon the project facilitated a call for proposals to support projects related to the environment older adults and youth empowerment; and (2) enhanced the efficiency of international assistance program and project design implementation and oversight by GAC field staff advisors partners and local stakeholders. This includes the recruitment of 12 Technical Advisors for programs in Jordan Iraq and Lebanon through competitive selection processes. The Field Support Services Project organized various knowledge sharing events such as workshops on gender equality and women’s empowerment gender network meetings development partners’ forums and round table discussions. Also the project provided support to the Canadian embassies in Jordan Iraq and Lebanon for procurement and event management needs.
