Project Description
This project aims to boost autonomy resilience and equity among cattle ranching families within specific regions of Guatemala and Mexico and with additional technical cooperation from Argentina and Costa Rica. It seeks to empower cattle ranching families especially women youth and Indigenous Peoples to adapt to climate challenges and promote sustainability and inclusivity. The project seeks to empower local communities to improve sustainable livestock management practices and climate change adaptation integrating remote sensing technology as a key tool to effectively monitor and manage these challenges using a citizen science approach. . This approach not only democratizes data usage but also ensures that adaptations are precisely attuned to the needs and conditions of local environments. Project activities include: (1) conducting a climate needs assessment; (2) creating citizen science groups; (3) integrating satellite monitoring; (4) designing a user-friendly digital platform; (5) facilitating sustainable practices; and (6) influencing policymaking.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased in women’s participation and influence over climate adaptation decisions supported by equitable access to information and resources; (2) increased implementation of sustainable and climate-smart practices ensuring long-term commitment and appropriation of climate adaptation tools and knowledge among cattle ranching families and Community-Led Resilience Committees; and (3) enhanced commitment of policymakers to incorporate ranchers' perspectives gender-inclusive approaches and data-driven climate adaptation strategies into policy development.
