Project Description
This project aims to empower the youth in BacDad in the parish of St. Andrew Grenada and address the escalating conflict and violence within the community particularly among young men. It seeks to achieve this by providing comprehensive psychosocial skills training and practical workshops for the youth and their parents. Project activities include: (1) conducting a 3-month conflict management workshop for 50 young individuals; (2) conducting workshops on common-sense parenting and literacy-focused parenting; (3) conducting anger management and communication skills workshops for 50 young people; and (4) establishing literacy workshops for children to improve reading and writing skills and training in various sports and musical instruments. This project is part of the Local Engagement and Action Fund (LEAF) which supports civil society and local organizations across the Caribbean. The Fund aids them in implementing initiatives that respond to local needs and advance the aims and strategic objectives of Canada’s Caribbean Regional Development Program.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) reduced violent behaviour and abusive language among the youth; (2) improved parenting skills among young parents; (3) enhanced literacy and engagement in constructive recreational activities among children; and (4) broadened cultural and social integration through sports and music.
