Project Description
This project aims to increase the flow of capital to high-impact agricultural small- and medium-sized enterprises (agri-SMEs).This project complements the financial incentives provide through Aceli’s market incentive facility. It supports lenders and agri-SME. Project activities that include: (1) providing technical assistance to agri-SMES at the pre- and post-investment stage to increase their capacity to access and manage financing; (2) building capacity for lenders to adapt their product offering enhance their staff expertise improve and create environmental social and governance policies; and (3) conducting data and learning activities to inform adjustments to incentive levels and technical assistance as the market evolves.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved ability to serve agri-SMEs particularly those that are gender inclusive by the financial institutions supported by Aceli Africa; (2) enhanced capacity of lenders and agri-SMEs to apply good Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) standards and access and manage financing; and (3) improved food security and nutrition gender and youth inclusion and climate smart agricultural practices by high-impact agri-SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2024 include: (1) hosted 6 cohorts of technical assistance and provided training to 155 early stage SMEs and 27 later-stage SMEs; (2) provided capacity building services to 7 eligible lenders in East Africa; and (3) created market access for 1.2 million smallholder farmers suppliers and employment for 42 000 full time workers since inception.
