Project Description
This project through the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UN DSS) aims to enhance the capacity of United Nations organizations to respond to crises and deliver critical operations. Project activities include: (1) establishing a rapidly-deployable emergency response team; (2) establishing a digital transformation of the United Nations Security Management Information Network; and (3) providing crisis-specific psychosocial support to United Nations personnel and dependents.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased United Nations agencies deliver emergency programming through the rapid deployment of a cross-functional emergency response team; (2) revitalized the information management system to strengthen UNDSS’ anticipation and responsiveness to security challenges; and (3) created and piloted a hybrid training certification program to build the mental health capacity of professionals in the field. This helped them to deliver high-quality critical incident stress management services to UN personnel and dependents.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) established the Emergency Response Team (ERT) recruited and trained 8 positions to form the full team; (2) deployed the ERT and coordinated multi-effort security risk management systems during the crises in Gaza Sudan and Ukraine and provided virtual support to Haiti; (3) reviewed and performed data appraisal of the United Nations Security Managers Information Network to determine data retention for display on the revamped platform and identify data for archiving or deletion; and (4) developed a new country planning tool to ensure up-to-date staff lists.
