Project Description

The Pandemic Fund a new World Bank-hosted Financial Intermediary Fund aims to reduce the risks associated with pandemics by providing a dedicated stream of additional long-term funding to address gaps in pandemic prevention preparedness and response (PPR) activities. This fund supports low and lower-middle income countries and at regional and global levels. Project activities include: (1) helping countries and regions to detect report and share information on disease outbreaks; (2) building resilient health systems that can withstand health emergencies including trained healthcare workers safe health facilities and tools and materials needed to adequately deliver health services; (3) building trust and improving communication within communities; and (4) improving equitable access to vaccines therapeutics diagnostics and essential supplies.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved capability in holistic disease surveillance and preparedness for health emergencies; (2) improved cooperation on PPR among countries regionally globally and across sectors within countries; and (3) increased incentivization of additional investment in pandemic PPR.
