Project Description
On May 26 2024 Cyclone Remal struck Bangladesh causing storm surges reaching 8 to 12 feet above normal levels. Within hours it triggered widespread flooding and caused extensive damage to houses infrastructure and agriculture. These events affected an estimated 4.6 million people and left 800 000 people displaced. With GAC’s support the Canadian Red Cross the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are working to save lives and help reduce the suffering of people affected by the cyclone. Project activities include: (1) providing multi-purpose cash to meet basic needs; (2) distributing in-kind relief items; and (3) providing emergency healthcare and protection services including mental health and psychosocial support.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project includes: increased access to humanitarian assistance to support vulnerable and at-risk populations. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
