Project Description

This project seeks to enhance the socio-economic inclusion and integration of migrants refugees and returned emigrants. This includes women and children in selected host countries of Latin America and the Caribbean who participate in the Americas Partnership for Economic Prosperity (APEP). The project works via 2 complementary components: (1) technical assistance to host governments in designing and implementing strategies in response to the refugee and migrant crises; and (2) collaboration with the private sector in promoting access to economic opportunities for migrants and host community members. This includes women Indigenous Peoples and persons with disabilities. Project activities include: (1) strengthening the capacity of host country governments to provide regularization documentation and protection services to refugees and migrants; (2) providing access to basic services and social protections including housing and social infrastructure for refugees and migrants; (3) improving access to health quality education and skills development for refugees and migrants; and (4) improving economic opportunities for refugees and migrants including access to employment financial services and capital. The Grant Facility on Migration of the Inter-American Development Bank implements this project. To date over 1.8 million refugees and migrants and their host communities have benefitted from the Facility's operations and technical cooperation. Canada's support via this project seeks to reach 71 604 additional direct beneficiaries.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced protection and access to services (regularization housing health education) for refugees migrants and host community members in selected countries of Latin America and the Caribbean; and (2) enhanced access to economic opportunities for refugees migrants and host community members in selected countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.
