Project Description
This project is part of Global Affairs Canada’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy. The IYIP aims to provide youth aged 18 to 30 living in Canada particularly those facing employment barriers with the opportunity to gain professional experience in international development. The Resilient Youth | Supported Inclusion | Network Growth (RYSING) Project implemented by The Fisheries and Marine Institute of the Memorial University and Atlantic Council for International Cooperation provide Canadian youth in particular youth who face discrimination and barriers to employment 4-month internships. The project provide youth the opportunity to improve employment skills through international placements focusing on environmental sustainability adaptation to climate change and improving gender equality. The proposed 190 internships respond to the local partner and community needs. They are aligned with specific Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased efforts by Canadian youth interns to secure employment through their internship experience including in the field of international development; and (2) increased engagement of Canadian youth interns as global citizens who support international development efforts in Canada and abroad.
