Project Description
This project contributes to Canada’s $120 million loan for the Government of Ecuador. It supports the country’s Clean Energy Transition and Promotion of Private Investment in the energy sector. It does so through building workforce capacity promoting universal access to clean energy and addressing gender and accessibility issues in the energy sector. Project activities include: (1) providing tools and training to develop an orderly fair and inclusive energy transition process; (2) increasing access to electricity service in remote and Indigenous communities; and (3) reducing discrimination based on gender and disability in the electricity sector.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased knowledge on just energy transition within the Ecuadorian government regional actors and the private sector including tools to develop just energy transition agreements; (2) improved understanding of the state of the electricity sector within the Ecuadorian government; (3) increased awareness on promoting clean energy investments in the Ecuadorian government and remote and Indigenous communities; (4) improved training education opportunities and labour or contracting conditions for women in the energy sector; and (5) increased participation of local and Indigenous communities in the energy transition.
