Project Description
The project aims to improve the human dignity of women particularly Indigenous and rural women domestic care workers in Honduras. Project activities include: (1) training paid domestic workers on life technical and negotiation skills and rights. This includes training on gender equality gender-based violence labour rights financial literacy digital education and environmental sustainability; (2) developing Community Action Plans through social analysis and action to recognize reduce and redistribute care work; and (3) providing technical assistance to form new and strengthen existing women’s unions networks and platforms at the local regional and national level. CARE Canada and CARE Honduras co-implement this project alongside the National Union of Domestic Workers the Council for the Integral Development of Rural Women and the Center for Women’s Studies in Honduras. The project seeks to directly reach 13 000 people (11 000 women and 2 000 men) including domestic care workers stakeholders from women’s rights organizations unions and women and men community members.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved knowledge and skills of paid women domestic workers to advocate for their work and labour rights to be recognized and to prevent gender-based violence in the workplace; (2) increased access by paid and unpaid care workers to rights and needs-based resources services gender or environmentally responsive social care initiatives and decision-making spaces led by civil society and public or private actors; and (3) increased ability of women's networks platforms unions rural and indigenous organizations to represent advocate and negotiate for women caregivers.
