Project Description

This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). The OIF uses these funds and those of other donors to carry out its mandate and implement its programs. These programs focus on promoting the French language and cultural and linguistic diversity; promoting peace democracy and human rights; and supporting education training higher education and research. They also focus on promoting sustainable economic development and solidarity. In implementing its strategic objectives the OIF takes into account the crosscutting themes of youth and gender equality. The OIF carries out its activities in cooperation with the other institutions of La Francophonie civil society and national international and multilateral organizations. Advocacy project funding technical assistance training awareness-raising and dissemination of knowledge in French are the OIF’s primary means of carrying out its programming which focuses on women and youth. Canada’s support for the OIF’s programming contributes in particular to the promotion of the French language in a context of linguistic and cultural diversity and to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls. This support also helps strengthen democratic governance and the rule of law among its members improve access for all children to quality education and training promote an equitable and sustainable digital transformation and implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Expected Results

The expected results of this project include: (1) strengthened influence of Francophone actors in particular in regional and international organisations and increased influence of the French language in a context of linguistic and cultural diversity; (2) improved consideration of culture and cultural diversity issues in sustainable development strategies and increased participation of young people in innovation and artistic creation; (3) improved democratic governance respect for human rights and the rule of law in the French-speaking world; (4) established a stable and peaceful environment in the French-speaking world; (5) improved access for all children (girls and boys) and young people (women and men) to basic education and high-quality vocational and technical training in the French-speaking world; (6) increased opportunities for young women and men to exchange learn and share their skills and knowledge; (7) improved integration of the challenges and goals of sustainable development into national and local policies in the target countries; and (8) consolidated conditions for sustainable and equitable growth in the target countries.
