Project Description
The second phase of the Refugee Education Council (REC) will convene a group of 8-12 refugee and displaced youth affected by forced displacement from different parts of the world with a demonstrated history of advocacy work in gender-responsive education within their communities. The Council will provide strategic advice on solutions and approaches to the education for refugee displaced and host community children and youth to key senior Global Affairs Canada officials including Canada’s Minister of International Development; participate in key global education fora; and build cross-sectoral collaborations with refugee and displaced women and youth networks and civil society partners. This project builds on the first phase of the REC (P-009877) which was launched in February 2021 and ended on December 31 2023.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of the REC Phase 2’s to enhance inclusive gender-responsive and conflict-sensitive global policy and programming approaches to improving access to quality education for all within global decision-making structures include: (1) an improved enabling environment for refugee and displaced adolescent girls and boys young women and men in the Global South and in Canada to strengthen their capacity and become agents of change in local national and global spheres; and (2) increased meaningful integration of refugee and displaced youth especially adolescent girls and young women in international gender responsive and human-rights based policy dialogue and decision-making in education.
