Project Description
This project aims to support national institutions and processes in organizing free fair and peaceful elections in South Sudan. Project activities include: (1) establishing legal frameworks such as the National Elections Act and constitution to promote a peaceful and credible election process; (2) providing technical support and capacity development of national institutions to foster accountability of financial administrative and procurement processes for transparent election management; (3) developing and implementing an election security plan including police training and scaling up conflict mitigation and peacebuilding at the community level to mitigate electoral- related violence; (4) conducting training developing guidelines and providing technical support to journalists to enhance the accuracy and neutrality of media reporting during elections including on human rights and gender-sensitive reporting; and (5) supporting the design and delivery of specific civic and voter education for marginalized groups to foster inclusive participation of women youth and other under-represented populations.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened electoral processes that establish legitimate representation; and (2) enhanced inclusive civic engagement in particular for women youth and under-represented groups.
