Project Description
This project aims to enhance the dignity and safety from sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) of women girls and vulnerable populations in Sudan. Project activities include: (1) building capacity of health care providers and social workers in rape clinical management and psychological first aid services; (2) establishing women and girls’ safe spaces; (3) procuring and distributing dignity kits; and (4) supporting women-led organizations youth networks and disability networks to promote SGBV prevention and response services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased women and girls’ access to quality life-saving SGBV and health response services; (2) enhanced women girls and vulnerable populations’ access to SGBV prevention and risk mitigation measures; (3) enhanced the capacity of national and sub-national SGBV partners to support access to comprehensive survivor-centred life-saving services; and (4) integrated SGBV risk mitigation into all aspects of the humanitarian response to ensure a comprehensive gender-responsive inclusive and human rights-based response.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2024 include: (1) provided psychosocial support sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) case management services and community outreach regarding SGBV to 47 060 beneficiaries including 450 SGBV survivors; (2) trained 290 healthcare providers on clinical management of rape including 50 specialists for mobile medical teams and 110 SGBV service providers on psychosocial support and emergency SGBV response; (3) distributed 15 000 dignity kits and 20 000 sanitary napkin packs to 21 666 women and girls coupled with awareness-raising sessions on SGBV and available services; (4) rehabilitated four Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) serving 6 800 women and girls and provided vocational training to 100 women and girls with 46 receiving grants to start small businesses; (5) established five Community-Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) with 75 trained members reaching 3 600 community members through awareness and referrals; and (6) supported 11 Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) with training and operational support.
