Project Description
The DANBÉ project aims to fill the gaps in sexual and reproductive health and rights for women and adolescent girls in the Sikasso and Ségou regions by strengthening the capacity of health facilities through training and regular coaching of care providers and the provision of medical and non-medical equipment. This also involves improved and more integrated management of sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence services. Women and girls would have access to a full range of services including emergency neonatal obstetric care family planning comprehensive sexuality education prevention of sexually transmitted infections and prevention and response to gender-based violence. The project involves capacity-building for the relevant technical departments of the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs and the Ministry for the Promotion of Women Children and the Family to improve the availability and quality of sexual and reproductive health and rights and gender-based violence services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: 1) increased utilization by adolescent girls and women of appropriate health services in sexual and reproductive health and rights prevention and management of gender-based violence and support for survivors; 2) increased effectiveness of institutional players in coordinating intersectoral interventions in favor of sexual and reproductive health and rights reduction of gender-based violence and gender equality; 3) increased control by adolescent girls and women over resources guaranteeing them autonomy within their communities.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) access to sexual and reproductive health services for 37 402 women in Barouéli and 38 727 in Tominian; 6 277 adolescent girls using family planning (FP) services in Barouéli representing 433% of the target; (2) completed the 4 recommended prenatal consultations (CPN) by 2 066 adolescent girls and 9 166 women in Bougouni and delivery of 6 734 and 7 090 adolescent girls in health facilities in Bougouni and Koutiala; (3) supported 44 health centers and 4 local women's empowerment services to improve the referral of survivors of gender-based violence (GBV); (4) access for more than 80% of women to positions of responsibility in community structures (compared to 36 to 56% at the outset). Also completed the savings cycles for 160 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) with average savings of 102 000 to 198 000 CFA francs; (5) 1 665 adolescent girls completed “Girl Shine” personal development sessions; and (6) raised awareness among nearly 90 000 people through community mobilization campaigns. These results illustrate the DANBE project's commitment to empowering women and girls by ensuring them better access to essential services supporting their community leadership and creating the conditions for sustainable change in favor of gender equality.
