Project Description

This project aims to improve the economic security of women and the most vulnerable or marginalized. It works with local stakeholders (government private sector and civil society) to support employment and entrepreneurship. It contributes to building local economies of regions impacted by war and supports the economic integration of Internally displaced persons in host communities. Project activities include: (1) distributing livelihood grants to women the most vulnerable or marginalized and small-business support; (2) providing training subsidies and Information Technology scholarships for women youth and internally displaced persons; (3) supporting state labour centres to serve job seekers more effectively; (4) supporting the establishment of Business Advisory Centres to increase entrepreneurship opportunities for women; (5) increasing access to local kindergartens and daycare centres; (6) launching the “Rebuild Ukraine” skills education campaign among high schools vocational schools universities or colleges and youth clubs; and (7) undertaking socio-economic assessment activities to understand current labour market dynamics better.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved economic security of rural women and the most vulnerable or marginalized especially those affected by the conflict. This includes adult women and men and women unemployed over the age of 50; (2) enhanced employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for women and the most vulnerable and marginalized including unemployed youth without work experience; and (3) increased economic empowerment of women and girls.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) provided vulnerability specific support to 3 498 individuals (3 303 women and 195 men). This includes referrals using the Acted hotline to other services such as cash advances support for local housing opportunities and medical care provided by other organizations on the ground; (2) reached 692 beneficiaries (660 women and 32 men) through the livelihood grants component. This allowed vulnerable beneficiaries (including rural women and women over the age of 50) to undertake small-scale economic activities related to growing vegetables and berries in greenhouses raising poultry and egg production sewing tailoring and repairing clothes producing food and baking deserts hairdressing tutoring producing jewellery and hair accessories; (3) granted IT scholarships and trained 314 individuals (299 women and 14 men) to increase their skills in digital marketing web design IT project management and business design; (4) as part of the project`s component on Business Advisory Centres supported a civil society organization to organize trainings in communities in Chernivetska oblast for a total of 1 178 individuals (1 140 women and 38 men). Workshops focused on creative thinking in business financial literacy women`s leadership in community development digital business skills and other topics; (4) launched a request for proposals in 5 oblasts and identified 12 local organizations to operate daycare centres. Daycare centres aimed to be accessible to young women working or studying at universities and colleges. This includes Internally displaced Persons (IDPs) who do not have any relatives in the oblast and have to leave their children during the day or students who have no other childcare options during classes or exams. 2 partners are located outside of the city of Vinnytsia where childcare options are very limited especially for children with disabilities.
