Project Description
The Humanitarian Thematic Fund (HTF) is a global pooled fund managed by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to support a timely response to unforeseen or emerging crises and to underfunded emergencies. With Global Affairs Canada’s support the HTF allows UNFPA and its local partners to deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive health programming in humanitarian settings as the need arises. Project activities include: (1) providing humanitarian programming that supports reproductive health maternal health family planning abortion and post-abortion care and sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response; (2) procuring and distributing medical and non-medical equipment and medical supplies; (3) providing surge deployment of frontline and support staff; and (4) providing technical support in humanitarian action and coordination.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased delivery of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) programming in global humanitarian response; (2) improved UNFPA capacity to deliver timely SRH and SGBV humanitarian response; and (3) increased technical SRH and SGBV support for partners in humanitarian response. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
