Project Description
This project is part of Canada’s commitment to the Middle East Strategy. The Middle East Field Support Services Project (ME-FSSP) provides essential support in the planning delivering and monitoring of Canada’s expanded international development and humanitarian assistance in Iraq Jordan Lebanon and Syria. Project activities include (1) analyzing development issues strategies and needs; (2) providing technical support including gender expertise; and (3) providing project monitoring and logistical services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved effectiveness and relevance of Global Affairs initiatives to local development challenges plans and priorities particularly the challenges faced by women and (2) improved efficiency of program and project design and oversight by Global Affairs staff advisors partners and local stakeholders.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) improved the effectiveness and relevance of initiatives addressing local development challenges plans and priorities particularly for women and girls; (2) supported local initiatives targeting climate change and food security in Jordan environment elderly and youth empowerment in Lebanon. Also launched a call for proposal targeting climate change and food security in Iraq with proposals currently under consideration; (3) improved the efficiency of program and project design implementation and oversight by staff advisors partners and local stakeholders; (4) recruited eight Technical Advisors for the Jordan Iraq and Lebanon programs through competitive processes; (5) provided training on the GAC Gender Equality and Empowerment Measurement tool in Lebanon; (6) supported FemParl in Jordan which advanced progress toward women’s political empowerment; and (7) provided support for the Embassies of Canada in Lebanon and Jordan with the procurement of transportation and accommodation services and event management services such as the production of visibility material interpretation and photography.
