Project Description
This grant represents Canada’s institutional support to Generation Unlimited (GenU). GenU uses these funds and other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. Launched by the UN Secretary-General in 2018 and hosted by UNICEF GenU is a global public- private-youth partnership that brings together young people UN organizations non-governmental organizations governments and leaders including Heads of State CEOs Heads of UN agencies and civil society champions to co-create and deliver innovative solutions for youth on a global scale. GenU aims to reach over 300 million youth focusing on young women in 89 countries through education training skills and opportunities for employment entrepreneurship and social impact by 2026. Project activities include: (1) providing young people (ages 10 to 24) outside formal schooling with opportunities for training skill development mentorship and additional education; (2) creating connections between young people and quality work opportunities; (3) facilitating an entrepreneurial mindset and entrepreneurial skills in young people through training and access to finance and networks; (4) supporting young people to participate as agents of change in youth-led campaigns volunteer opportunities civic engagement and social impact programs; (5) connecting schools communities and young people to the Internet; and (6) scaling access to open-source software and digital public goods.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes include: (1) improved skills employability and economic empowerment of young people; (2) increased access to entrepreneurship opportunities for young people and an enhanced policy environment for youth entrepreneurship; (3) enhanced civic engagement and participation in social impact programs by young people; and (4) increased connectivity of schools communities and young people to the Internet and digital public goods.
