Project Description

This project builds on the pilot phase of the Elsie Initiative for Women in Peacekeeping. It supports national security sector actors in targeted troop and police contributing countries (T/PCCs) to increase support and capacity to advance women’s meaningful participation in UN peacekeeping. Project activities include: (1) providing targeted and data-informed technical assistance to to three T/PCCs; (2) supporting new barrier assessments for uniformed women in peace operations in T/PCCs through the Elsie Initiative Fund Help Desk; and (3) consolidating lessons learned and best practices on the implementation of barrier assessment recommendations.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of the project include: (1) increased capacity of T/PCCs to carry out barrier assessments autonomously; (2) increased demonstrated commitments and actions to influence efforts to increase women's meaningful participation in peacekeeping in targeted T/PCCs; and (3) increased effectiveness of approaches to increase uniformed women’s meaningful participation in peace operations for practitioners researchers and national government stakeholders through practical online tools and resources to transform policy recommendations into action.
