Project Description
This grant represents Canada’s long-term institutional support to the Government of Jordan. The Jordanian Ministry of Health uses these funds along with other donors’ funding to ensure better health outcomes for hundreds of thousands of Syrian and non-Syrian refugees particularly women and girls. Along with other donors Canada’s contribution offsets the additional costs of providing health services to Syrians through Jordan’s public health system. Project activities include: (1) providing primary and secondary health care services in Ministry of Health facilities; and (2) procuring medicines medical solutions consumables and supplies.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved provision of primary and secondary health services in Ministry of Health facilities for refugees particularly for women and girls; and (2) enhanced utilization of primary and secondary health services at Ministry of Health facilities by refugees particularly women and girls.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2023 include: (1) maintained the government policy to offer health services to refugees at the exact cost as uninsured Jordanians; (2) increased utilization by 30% of health services by refugees between 2022 and 2023; (3) distributed 9 500 copies of the Manual of Healthcare Services Provided to Refugees in the Ministry of Health. Also distributed 2 500 copies of the Operational Manual on Procedures at Ministry of Health Hospitals and Health Centers for Refugees Accessing the Health Services; and (4) constructed rehabilitated renovated and refurbished key departments at various public health facilities in areas with high refugee populations.
