Project Description
This project aims to improve access to sexual and reproductive health care for vulnerable and marginalized adolescent girls and young women in Bolivia the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Ghana Honduras Jordan Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territory. Project activities include: (1) educating and working with adolescent girls and young women on topics related to their sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR); (2) educating and working with adolescent boys and young men on issues such as gender equality SRHR and cultural practices related to masculinity gender and sexuality; (3) training health care workers to provide inclusive and accessible sexual and reproductive health services and practices particularly to adolescent girls and young women; (4) providing better equipment to health facilities across the project countries in order to improve their capacity to offer comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services; and (5) working with civil society organizations and rights’ groups to advocate for better SRHR related policy. The project works to benefit over 90 000 adolescent girls and young women across the project countries. This project works in partnership with the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada(SOGC) and RNW Media as well as numerous local women’s rights groups and youth organizations across the project countries.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased equitable use of sexual and reproductive health services by young women and adolescent girls; (2) improved provision of gender-responsive inclusive and accountable sexual and reproductive health services by health care providers for diverse groups of young women and adolescent girls; and (3) improved effectiveness of key stakeholders led by women and girls’ rights organizations to advocate for evidence-based health care policies accountable legal framework equitable and inclusive services.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) youth involved in the project expressed a level of satisfaction of 80% with the activities provided; (2) healthcare facility staff involved in the project expressed a level of satisfaction of 80% with the activities provided; (3) health facilities supported by the project are providing 72 new or enhanced sexual and reproductive health services to adolescent girls young men and groups in situation of marginalization; and (4) the project sensitized 224 policy or decisions makers on sexual and reproductive health rights.
