Project Description

July 2023 - Before the Taliban takeover the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan was already one of the worst in the world. Since the Taliban takeover humanitarian needs have continued to worsen and the challenging operational context has been further complicated. In 2023 an estimated 28.8 million people require humanitarian assistance due to conflict chronic food insecurity displacement the coronavirus (COVID-19) broad economic crisis and climatic events. With GAC’s support Islamic Relief Canada addresses the urgent health and protection needs of 36 540 vulnerable people in Samangan Afghanistan. Project activities include: (1) providing psychosocial support to vulnerable populations; (2) distributing dignity kits including menstrual hygiene items; and (3) treating cases of severe and moderate malnutrition.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced provision of safe and dignified protection services; and (2) increased utilization of gender-responsive health services. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
