Project Description
This project supports organizations and networks that aim to empower lesbian bisexual transgender queer and intersex (LBTQI) women and girls in West Africa. Project activities include: (1) mobilizing LBTQI women and girls to promote positive perceptions of LBTQI+ women; (2) creating spaces for inclusive dialogue between LBTQI civil society and health authorities in West Africa; (3) undertaking participatory regional research on Africa's current state and the future of LBTQI rights activism; (4) publishing and disseminating consolidated national reports on the health needs of LBTQI women and girls in West Africa to relevant local stakeholders; and (5) developing a training program for local health authorities that addresses the specific health needs of LBTQI women and girls.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to quality health services including sexual and reproductive health adapted to the needs of LBTQI women and girls in West Africa; (2) increased acceptance of the rights of LBTQI women and girls by local communities and leaders in West Africa; and (3) improved regional and international cooperation among civil society organizations on issues regarding LBTQI women and girls.
