Project Description
This project aims to enhance the decision-making of United Nations (UN) officials and member states to address barriers hindering the meaningful participation of uniformed women in UN peace operations. This three-year project seeks to accomplish this by combining original research policy analysis and outreach and strategic engagement. Project activities include: (1) analyzing gender bias that may exist in recruitment training workplace culture and dynamics promotions and deployments and recommending strategies to decrease these biases; (2) examining ways to combat key barriers to women’s meaningful participation in peace operations with a specific focus on issues of sexual harassment discrimination and assault; and (3) connecting researchers practitioners and uniformed women from UN member states to collaborate on research and recommend actionable solutions.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced decision-making by UN officials and member states to address barriers hindering the meaningful participation of uniformed women in UN peace operations; (2) improved effectiveness of interventions by the UN national governments and civil society organizations to increase the meaningful participation of uniformed women in peace operations; and (3) developed strategies to decrease gender biases and to address sexual harassment discrimination and assault in UN Peace Operations.
