Uzbekistan Green Border Security Initiative - Afghanistan Border

This project seeks to increase the capacity of Uzbekistan to detect and deter the smuggling of nuclear or radiological materials. Specifically it supports Uzbekistan’s Border Guard Service in securing the Uzbek-Afghan border and adjacent Turkmenistan and Tajikistan border areas. Project activities include: (1) providing radiation detection communication patrol and surveillance equipment to Uzbekistan’s Border Guard Service; and (2) providing related operational and maintenance training on the equipment.

The expected outcome of this project includes improved detection and response to nuclear or radiological security incidents by Uzbekistan’s Border Guard Service at four key border sites.
