Project Description
This project supports the Africa Disaster Risk Financing program’s multi-donor trust fund. It seeks to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities women and girls to climate disasters in six African countries by adopting ex-ante climate disaster risk financing instruments. The project contributes to improving the capacity of governments and private sector actors for efficient and timely gender-sensitive responses to climate disasters. It does so by increasing access to climate disaster risk financing instruments. It also seeks to enhance protection against climate shocks by improving preparation and response to climate disasters. Project activities include: (1) conducting risk diagnostics to develop climate disaster risk financing strategies; (2) collaborating with the African Risk Capacity in Regional Member Countries to train and carry out workshops to develop gender-responsive contingency and response plans; and (3) facilitating premium subsidies payments for climate disaster risk insurance. This project directly benefits women and men who are vulnerable to climactic shock.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved efficient and timely gender-responsive responses to communities affected by climate disasters in six African countries: Benin Burkina Faso Chad Comoros Mali and Togo; (2) enhanced sustainable protection against climate shocks in Regional Member Countries; and (3) increased capacity of communities and its vulnerable groups especially women and girls to identify risks and to manage climate disasters.
