Project Description

This project aims to enhance the contribution of 300 Canadian small and medium organizations (SMOs) to Canada’s international development efforts. This is done by increasing their effectiveness to deliver sustainable development results collaboration among each other and engagement of Canadians especially youth as global citizens. Project activities include: (1) providing learning opportunities in project management to achieve the objectives of Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) and the sustainable development goals (SDGs); (2) organizing an annual conference for SMOs and educators to increase knowledge sharing on the FIAP and the SDGs; (3) publishing resources through the virtual resource library; and (4) establishing the SGDs Youth Champions Program including public engagement training and activities.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased effectiveness of Canadian small and medium organizations(SMOs) to deliver sustainable development results in support of Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) and the sustainable development goals (SDGs); (2) increased collaboration of Canadian SMOs in international development; and (3) increased engagement of Canadians particularly youth as global citizens in support of FIAP and the SDGs.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) improved the understanding of good development practices promoting gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of 79% of small and medium organizations (SMOs) participants who used online resources or participated in online learning opportunities; (2) built the capacity of 95% of Youth Champions who indicated that participation led to new opportunities for engagement in efforts towards empowering women and girls and achieving the SDGs; and (3) increased confidence of 94% of educators who participated in the 2021 Spur Change National Conference in delivering and engaging lessons on gender equality SDGs and other related global/local issues.
