Project Description

This project enhances the economic and climate resilience of the African population in particular women and youth post COVID-19. Project activities include: (1) developing a gender-responsive roadmap toolkit and metrics to implement the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan and measure progress on action and desired outcomes; (2) conducting a gender-responsive capacity needs assessment of at least seven African Union member states and three Regional Economic Communities; (3) developing and delivering a capacity building program on the implementation of the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan which targets 360 policymakers - with at least 40% women and youth; (4) establishing a Climate Finance Unit within the African Union Commission and developing an inclusive National Climate Finance Strategy for African Union member states; (5) hosting six African Union Green Finance Investor Roundtables; and (6) providing targeted training on climate finance to at least 75 officials directly linked with Ministries of Finance in AU member states.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) strengthened the African Union Commission’s ability to implement the African Union’s Green Recovery Action Plan; (2) enhanced skills of national and regional policymakers to develop inclusive green growth policies plans and programs in alignment with their nationally determined contributions and climate change strategies; and (3) improved ability for governments and partners to access climate finance for Africa’s green recovery aimed in particular at initiatives that support women and youth.
