Project Description
This project aims to reduce biological threats posed by dual-use research of concern (DURC) and the illicit use of biotechnology. Project activities include: (1) promoting multi-sectoral collaboration with the global community of experts on the responsible use of life sciences (RULS) and DURC; (2) implementing the “Global Guidance Framework for the Responsible Use of the Life Sciences and Dual-Use Research” according to regional and country contexts; and (3) establishing a roster of regional champions to share best practices on RULS and DURC.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased collaboration amongst the World Health Organization (WHO) its Member States and relevant experts to monitor biorisks biosafety biosecurity and the effective governance of the responsible use of life sciences; (2) strengthened implementation by WHO Member States of best practices related to the responsible use of life sciences or DURC; and (3) improved coordination amongst biorisk biosafety and biosecurity professionals to share evidence-based best practices and lessons learned on the responsible use of life sciences or DURC.
