Project Description

The project aims to improve the living conditions and protection of women and girls at different stages of the migration cycle. The project seeks to achieve this by improving gender-based analysis in decision and policy-making. This is done by expanding gender-responsive services and protection mechanisms from key public civil society and private actors while strengthening women and girls’ economic autonomy. The project activities include: (1) providing technical assistance and training on collection systematization and analysis of gender- sensitive migration data integrating protection principles; (2) training institutions responsible for the assistance of women and girls on the move; (3) promoting community health mental health care and gender- based violence prevention activities; (4) providing job training and apprenticeships for women migrants especially heads of household; and (5) supporting job placement for migrant women. The International Organization for Migration in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees implements this project.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) improved gender equality approach to policy-making on the situation and needs of vulnerable migrant and refugee women and girls; (2) improved gender-specific multisectoral protection services for vulnerable women and girls in the context of human mobility; and (3) increased economic autonomy of women on the move particularly women heads of households with opportunities that meet their specific needs and circumstances.
