Project Description
This project aims to improve sexual and reproductive health and promote and protect the related rights of women and girls including those living with disabilities in Côte d'Ivoire Senegal and Togo. Project activities include: (1) increasing the capacity of communities to promote gender-friendly behaviour and social norms related to the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of women and adolescent girls; (2) training health personnel on SRHR services for women and adolescent girls including long-term contraceptive methods; and (3) increasing the capacity of civil society and elected local government officials to advocate on SRHR services for women and adolescent girls. The project aims to raise awareness of SRHR services among 15 000 women girls men boys and community leaders. It also provides a comprehensive sexuality and SRHR education program to 12 000 girls boys and adolescents and trains 116 community mobilizers.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased use of gender- and adolescent-friendly services in comprehensive sexuality education and sexual and reproductive health in targeted regions; (2) improved gender- and adolescent-friendly comprehensive sexuality education services in targeted regions; and (3) strengthened government and civil society engagements in the area of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for women and adolescent girls in Côte d’Ivoire Senegal and Togo.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of June 2023 include: (1) trained 120 community workers (40 per country) on sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and adolescents in the regions of Gbeke (Côte d'Ivoire) Kolda (Senegal) and Maritime (Togo); (2) renovation and refurbishment of 15 adolescent centers (five per country) including supplies and equipment adapted to identified needs such as age gender or disability; 3) increase in the number of adolescent boys and girls aged 15 to 19 years old including those living with disabilities consulting health centers for sexual and reproductive health services such as contraceptive services prenatal care and delivery services. The numbers rose from 8 599 in 2022 to 19 910 in 2023 for Côte d'Ivoire from 16 335 in 2022 to 22 409 in 2023 for Senegal and from 5 452 in 2022 to 7 888 in 2023 for Togo.
