Project Description
This project aims to improve maternal and neonatal mortality rates in the hinterland regions of Guyana. Project activities include: (1) providing regular obstetrician care in all community health facilities; (2) providing training in counselling for contraception and family planning at all community health facilities; and (3) providing training on advanced neonatal care to physicians and staff at Regional Hospitals. This project targets women of reproductive age particularly pregnant women their infants and adolescent girls in the hinterland regions of Guyana.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased access to and utilization of health services that respond to the needs of poor women pregnant women mothers and infants in four regions of Guyana; and (2) improved effectiveness and efficiency of gender-responsive health services for poor women mothers and infants in four regions of Guyana.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) conducted baseline data collection; (2) created a gender strategy for the project; (3) organized and facilitated support group sessions for adolescent girls; and (4) empowered community leaders and members by providing them with knowledge and resources to champion gender equality and health.
