Project Description
This project aims to enhance the capacity of United Nations peacekeeping operations to effectively implement and achieve their mandate objectives. Through the annual field visits of the UN General Assembly’s Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations (C-34) this project supports the participation of 5 to 10 C-34 delegates from the global south. By increasing representation and diversity the visits have a greater impact and help to inform policymakers of the realities in peacekeeping field operations. International Peace Institute (IPI) drafts the field report and coordinate annual roundtables with field personnel and policymakers to complement the visits on peacekeeping priorities. This includes women peace and security and the work of C-34 to better inform decision-making on peacekeeping mandates and resource allocations.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) increased equitable and diverse participation of member states in C-34 working methods; (2) improved negotiation sessions for C-34 annual reports; (3) increased geographic and gender diversity of delegates participating in the C-34 field visits; and (4) enhanced awareness of issues related to the C-34 field visits and relevant to the C-34.
