Project Description
This project aims to build the Government of Laos’ capacity to undertake demining operations thereby supporting efforts for the country to accede to the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention. Project activities include: (1) delivering mine detection and removal equipment and personal protective equipment to Lao National Regulatory Authority (NRA) staff to undertake quality management; (2) training the Lao NRA quality management teams on quality assurance assessments for landmine clearance; (3) supporting the Lao NRA to ensure the Lao National Standards on mine action align with International Mine Action Standards; and (4) guiding the Lao National Unexploded Ordnance Programme and Humanity and Inclusion demining activities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced survey and clearance undertaken by Lao landmine teams to clear Confirmed Hazardous Areas; and (2) improved compliance with International Mine Action Standards of Lao National Standards on landmine contamination.
