Project Description
This project seeks to promote and protect women’s and girls’ rights in Colombia. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the women’s movement and civil society to advocate for public policies and budgets that respond to their needs and priorities. It also contributes to enhancing gender-sensitive public management by the national and local governments. Gender-responsive budgeting is recognized as a strategic tool to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment by improving the allocation of existing resources more equitably. It also ensures that gender-differentiated needs and priorities reflects in public policies. This initiative delivers high-quality technical assistance to the Government of Colombia women’s rights organizations and civil society for the systematic and sustainable integration of gender equality considerations into national and local planning and budgeting processes
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) institutionalized use of the “Gender Budget Tracker” by key government bodies as well as in the new National Development Plan and key public policies; and (2) enhanced use of the “Gender Budget Tracker” by women’s rights organizations civil society and prioritized territorial governments as a way to demand greater accountability on gender equality and to ensure the allocation of public resources toward these issues in Colombia.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of May 2023 include: (1) provided technical assistance to seven Ministries and 10 regional and local governments to improve and expand the use of the “Gender Budget Tracker” to ensure the allocation of public resources toward these issues in Colombia; and (2) provided technical assistance and support to the women’s movement and key government bodies for the incorporation of 45 gender equality measures in new National Development Plan.
