Project Description
This project seeks to improve the well-being of women and girls in the Sikasso Ségou and Mopti regions and the district of Bamako in Mali. Project activities include : 1) delivering better family planning services and post-abortion care to more than 200 000 women and adolescent girls; 2) raising awareness among more than 1 000 000 people through interactive radio programs or other kinds of campaigns on sexual and reproductive health and gender based violence; 3) providing 465 community members 120 female members of women’s groups and at least 200 community health centre care providers and mobile midwives with training on sexual and reproductive health and gender based violence; 4) training 16 district-level trainer-supervisors so as to ensure the sustainability and good governance of the health system; 5) holding sessions to lobby 150 key decision makers and policy leaders on sexual and reproductive health and gender based violence issues at the national and regional levels; and 6) building the capacity of 20 media representatives to ensure awareness of and proper communication on the issues of gender inequality.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include : (1) there are fewer socio cultural barriers that foster gender based violence and limit the use of sexual and reproductive health services by women and girls in the targeted regions; (2) the range and quality of sexual and reproductive health services and the response to gender based violence are improved equitable and based on the rights of women girls men and boys in the targeted regions; and (3) the legislative and policy environment at the national and regional levels better promotes and protects women’s and girls’ sexual and reproductive rights.
Progress & Results Achieved
The results achieved as of March 2025 include: 1) The training of 210 providers from community health centers on delivering high-quality services in reproductive health and gender-based violence aimed at improving care for the communities targeted by the project; 2) Access for 2 908 426 individuals to interactive radio broadcasts on sexual and reproductive health and rights gender-based violence and family planning; 3) The training of 120 community leaders on sexual and reproductive health and rights gender equality and gender-based violence empowering them to act as agents of change within their communities; 4) The training of 920 youth including 460 girls and 460 boys on sexual and reproductive health family planning and gender-based violence enabling them to lead social and behavior change communication activities among their peers on topics such as rape sexual assault forced marriage and female genital mutilation; 5) The prevention of 307 934 unintended pregnancies through the sexual and reproductive health and family planning services provided by the project; 6) Access for 366 102 individuals to family planning and post-abortion care services thereby improving access to sexual and reproductive health services and strengthening the rights of women and girls in Mali.
