Project Description
This project aims to increase empowerment of women and girls aged 14 and over who have been deprived of the right to education in selected health areas in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Community learning centres will provide space for 3 500 women and girls to access basic education and professional training. Also these trainings will support participants to develop income-generating activities and microenterprise and increase access to reproductive health information and services. Project activities include: (1) training local public institutions on gender equality government gender equality policies and development of local policies; (2) providing reproductive health information consultations and family planning to women and girls by local health professional; (3) training women and girls on technical and entrepreneurship skills for launching small-business or income-generating activities; (4) sensitizing community members on gender equality and women and girls’ right to education; and (5) providing personalized gender-sensitive learning programmes to women and girl learners.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased achievement of personalized learning for women and girls in project areas; (2) improved health and reproductive healthcare access for women and girls in project areas; and (3) increased influence of women and girls in local policy and decision-making processes that affect their lives.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) delivered gender-sensitive learning programs to 1764 learners (1549 women and 215 men); (2) provided technical training support and business start-up assistance to 719 learners (585 women and 134 men); (3) carried out awareness raising on gender equality and women’s and girls’ right to education among 604 098 community members in the target areas; (4) provided information and advice on reproductive health services to 1022 learners (889 women and 133 men); (5) equipped and trained nine community health workers to provide gender-sensitive information services and advice on reproductive health; and (6) trained 148 representatives of local institutions (60 women and 88 men) on gender equality policies and strategies.
