Project Description
This project aims to broaden the inclusivity of the South Sudanese peace process to create a foundation for durable peace in South Sudan. This project sustains the Sant’Egidio-led Rome Initiative peace talks between signatories and non-signatories of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS). Project activities include: (1) facilitating formal and informal mediation sessions between the South Sudanese transitional government and political wings of opposition groups that did not sign the R-ARCSS; and (2) establishing avenues for civil society particularly women to have their priorities for peace and governance heard. This project’s mediation engagement and consultation process facilitate reflection on the past. It shapes dialogue between stakeholders for a more inclusive positive peaceful future for the country.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased role of civil society including women in the South Sudanese peace process via the Rome Initiative; and (2) strengthened engagement of non-signatories to the R-ARCSS and representatives of the South Sudanese Government via the Rome Initiative.
