Project Description
This project aims to enhance equitable and inclusive learning outcomes for refugees internally displaced people (IDP) and host community children particularly girls and adolescent girls in Oromia (Bale) and Somali (Dollo Ado and Dollo Bay) regions of Ethiopia. The overall objective of the project is to promote equitable and inclusive learning outcomes for refugees IDP and host community children particularly girls and children living with disabilities. Project activities include: (1) delivering institutional-strengthening training related to governance managerial systems and relations with community and other stakeholders as well as their knowledge on child rights child participation equality gender and inclusion; (2) providing small grants to refugee-led and IDP-led organizations to fund core and programmatic activities based on situation analyses and education assessments such as improving teaching practices on safe quality gender and disability responsive learning environments; and (3) supporting refugee-led and IDP-led organizations on carrying out advocacy forums on inclusive education rights of IDP and refugee children with community and education authorities. The project aims to reach a total of 120 599 direct beneficiaries including 27 339 refugee and IDP children as well as teachers and facilitators caregivers Parent Teacher Student Associations and school members. The project will reach 458 004 community members as indirect beneficiaries through information dissemination and capacity strengthening of district education authorities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved performance of local IDP- and refugee-led organizations working on gender and disability responsive education; (2) increased access to quality inclusive gender and disability responsive education for refugees and internally displaced children particularly adolescent girls through refugee and/or IDP-led organizations; and (3) enhanced collective action of local IDP- and refugee-led organizations to advance the right to gender and disability responsive quality education for refugee and internally displaced children particularly vulnerable groups.
