Project Description
This project aims to improve the realization of diverse adolescent girls’ and young women’s (AGYW) rights to safe inclusive economic opportunities and sexual and reproductive health and rights. It is a multi-dimensional rights-based gender-transformative project for AGYW that aims to prepare them to become gender equality leaders and achieve their rights in the areas of economic empowerment and sexual and reproductive health rights. The project equips beneficiaries with critical knowledge skills and resources including follow-up services such as job placement or enterprise development to strengthen their economic status and become decision-makers and leaders in their own lives homes and communities. Project activities include: (1) setting up a training center in Myitkyina; (2) conducting entrepreneurship training for AGYW; (3) providing childcare subsidies to young mothers to enhance their ability to participate in project activities; and (4) supporting registration and set-up of AGYW-led organizations including recruitment of key positions. The project expects to reach an estimated 72 900 people directly boys girls men and women.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to and control over gender-responsive inclusive economic empowerment opportunities and services for AGYW; (2) improved agency and resilience of AGYW to exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights; and (3) strengthened AGYW-led organizations advocate for their rights and gender-responsive and inclusive services and policies.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) the project reached 37 532 persons (25 813 women 11 689 men and 30 individuals who identified themselves as LGBTQI+) working towards preventing responding and ending sexual and gender-based violence (GBV). This includes practices such as child early and forced marriage; (2) provided enhanced gender equality and sexual reproductive health and rights understandings of 4 222 individuals with “Champion of Change” training sessions; (3) trained youths and reached 25 780 peers to share gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights knowledge; and (4) trained 297 adults through “Parents’ Champion Training”.
