Project Description
This project aims to improve the quality of health and political freedom by marginalized conflict-affected and ethnic people particularly women and girls in Myanmar. It provides technical support to at-risk ethnic human rights defenders to adopt digital technologies and platforms to mitigate risks in a politically charged and fluid security environment. It aims to innovate in areas such as environmental protection community development projects health care services and in new partnerships and collaborations. Project activities include: (1) providing training to new and practicing health workers including on sexual and reproductive health delivery and rights particularly women; (2) providing dialogues workshops and trainings to further expand and strengthen coordinated equitable healthcare; (3) training media partners in conflict-sensitive non-discriminatory and inclusive news production; and (4) providing capacity-building trainings and exchanges for partners to deepen their understanding of rights issues. The project’s beneficiaries are 526 000 marginalized conflict-affected and ethnic minority people and over 40 ethnic minority health partners.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased use of environmentally sustainable and gender-responsive quality health services by marginalized conflict-affected and ethnic people particularly women and girls including sexual and reproductive health rights services and COVID-19 preparedness in Myanmar; (2) increased cooperation between ethnic civil society and other stakeholders at local regional and national levels; and (3) enhanced participation in public leadership decision-making and democratic processes by marginalized conflict-affected and ethnic people particularly women and girls.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) supported 75 clinics and 147 mobile teams to provide health care services for 548 965 people in 1 763 villages in Myanmar. Also supported health partners to treat 235 098 (58% women); (2) supported 22 sexual and gender-based violence crisis centers and assisted 375 survivors (including 32 girls); and (3) developed 2 new coordination platforms in collecting accurate up-to-date information on humanitarian aid for conflict-affected people and providing systematic assistance to displaced communities.
