Project Description

This project supports the Global Financing Facility for Women Children and Adolescents (GFF). The GFF is a multi-donor financing platform that provides country-led sustainable financing to end preventable maternal newborn and child deaths. The GFF uses these funds along with funds from country donors private foundations and recipient country domestic resources to implement its 2021-2025 Strategy: Protecting Promoting and Accelerating Health Gains for Women Children and Adolescents. This strategy takes into consideration countries’ needs related to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The GFF finances national reproductive maternal newborn child and adolescent health and nutrition (RMNCAH-N) plans supports countries in the transition towards sustainable domestic financing of RMNCAH-N contributes to coordinated financing for RMNCAH-N finances the strengthening of civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems and finances the development and deployment of global public goods. Project activities include: (1) supporting countries in developing individual RMNCAH-N investment cases to align sources of financing to national priorities; (2) clinical interventions such as increasing access to health services and health facilities from the pre-pregnancy stage onwards for women newborns and children; (3) health systems interventions such as strengthening health systems strengthening health information systems and increasing access to medical products/technologies; and (4) multi-sectoral interventions in multiple sectors such as education nutrition and water and sanitation and strengthening of CRVS systems. Project activities will vary depending on the RMNCAH-N priorities of the recipient government. Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: Medium-term: (1) improved service delivery; (2) adopted and implemented financing and systems reforms; and (3) systematic use of data to inform decision-making; Long-term: (1) equitable scaled sustained coverage of high-impact interventions; (2) increased and sustained resources for health; (3) improved efficiency of health-related investments. The ultimate expected outcomes for this project are accelerated country-led progress on improving the health and well-being of women children and adolescents and strengthened national platforms for primary health care and universal health care with a focus on health financing.
