Project Description

The project aims to address the impact of corruption in access to education and health services for groups at risk of discrimination particularly women and girls in 5 countries in Africa (Democratic Republic of Congo Ghana Madagascar Rwanda and Zimbabwe). Project activities include: (1) The establishment and operation of Advocacy and Legal Advice Centres (2) The assessments designing and developing tools and training materials (3) Surveys and studies (4) Workshops and training and (5) Awareness campaigns.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) more effective action taken by public institutions to close gender-related corruption loopholes and address corruption vulnerabilities in the education and health sectors related to women girls and groups at risk of discrimination; (2) increased engagement of citizens particularly women girls and other groups at risk of discrimination to demand accountability from duty bearers in the delivery of education and healthcare services; and (3) increased recognition among stakeholders at national and regional levels of the need to mainstream gender-informed anti-corruption measures in the delivery of education and healthcare services particularly those related to women girls and groups at risk of discrimination and concrete ways by which these needs can be met.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include : (1) trained 304 government officials (112 women 112 men) on integrating anti-corruption in the delivery of education and healthcare; (2) reached 4 408 women and girls through sensitization and mobilization campaigns; and (3) formed two multi-stakeholder coalitions to address gendered forms of corruption in education and health services.
