Project Description
This project contributes to the respect of the right to health including sexual and reproductive rights of women and girls affected by the conflict in the northern regions of Burkina Faso with a focus on internally displaced populations and host communities. This project supports improved and equitable access to health care services for conflict-affected populations particularly women and girls and populations in remote locations by building the capacity of community-based health care delivery structures and systems. Based on a community-based approach the project aims to reduce gender inequalities and address sexual and reproductive rights gender-based violence and women's decision-making power while contributing to the plan to respond to the COVID-19 epidemic in insecure areas. Project activities include: (1) implementing primary health care and sexual and reproductive health and rights services including gender-based violence management and care mental health and psychosocial services for conflict-affected populations including IDPs and host communities; (2) implementing community health strategies including direct service delivery in conflict-affected communities; (3) providing technical assistance to health authorities to respond to and manage disease outbreaks including COVID-19; and (4) engaging with men and adolescents to change community attitudes and beliefs about the right to health gender equality and gender-based violence particularly among host communities and IDPs.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) Improved equitable access to quality primary health care including SRHR by populations affected by conflict in northern Burkina Faso particularly women and girls; and (2) Improved social and community environment in favour of the right to health in particular toward the right to sexual and reproductive rights and gender equality for women and girls in northern Burkina Faso.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include : (1) 22 620 people including 16 865 women and 6 055 men benefited from medical consultations through the mobile clinic; (2) awareness-raising activities on primary healthcare services sexual and reproductive health and gender-based violence reached 17 119 people including 11 774 women and 5 345 men; (3) treated 820 people including 361 women and 459 men free of charge for emergencies; and (4) trained 11 civil society organizations on the right to health gender and gender-based violence. These organizations carried out six promotional activities based on their training.
