Project Description
This project aims to increase the enjoyment of health-related rights for the most vulnerable children adolescent girls and women in Cambodia Kenya the Philippines and Uganda. Project activities include: (1) providing training on sexual and reproductive health and rights water sanitation and hygiene climate resilience and life skills to adolescent girls young women boys and young men; (2) providing training and support to health care staff community health volunteers and other duty-bearers on women centered safe inclusive care and counselling; (3) training health care providers to provide comprehensive gender-sensitive sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services; (4) providing training on nutrition for caregivers of children under the age of five years old pregnant and lactating mothers and their partners through kitchen gardening; and (5) equipping health centres to provide SRH care from family planning consultations to supporting victims of sexual and gender-based violence in all four countries. The project expects to directly benefit over 120 000 girls women boys and men across all project countries. This project works in partnership with its Canadian partners Salanga and Sick Kids and through its implementing partners ADRA Cambodia Kenya Philippines and Uganda.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased equitable use of inclusive respectful and quality health services by the most vulnerable adolescent girls’ women’s and children’s (under the age of five years old) rights holders living in Indigenous remote or resettlement settings of target areas; (2) improved provision of gender-responsive inclusive and environment-sensitive health and nutrition services by duty-bearers and responsibility-holders for the most vulnerable adolescent girls women and children under the age of 5 years old in target areas; and (3) increased community-led evidence-based multi-sectoral actions in reducing structural barriers preventing realization of health-related rights by the most vulnerable adolescent girls women and children under the age of 5 years old in target areas.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2024 include: (1) trained 40 480 adolescent girls young women boys and young men on life skills negotiation sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) sexual and reproductive health and rights and climate resilience; (2) offered training to 1 929 teachers and educators on gender transformative comprehensive sexuality education; (3) trained 17 645 caregivers pregnant and lactating women and their partners on gender-responsive environment and climate-sensitive nutrition and kitchen gardening; (4) trained 1 023 community health care providers on women-centred safe inclusive care and counselling on health sexual and reproductive health and rights and SGBV responses; (5) 73 community groups in Cambodia Kenya Uganda and the Philippines completed group action plans to address SGBV unintended pregnancies or sex work in an inclusive process; and (6) 832 community leaders authorities and stakeholders participated in health and rights-focused mobilization efforts to support community groups addressing unintended pregnancies and SGBV in Cambodia Kenya Uganda and the Philippines.
