Project Description

This technical assistance project complements Canada’s financial support to Burkina Faso's Basic Education Strategic Development Program. It aims to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Basic Education Literacy and the Promotion of National Languages (MENAPLN) to improve the quality of education reduce gender related disparities in access strengthen governance of basic education and reinforce financial management and procurement mechanisms.

Expected Results

Expected outcomes for this project include : (1) improved professional practices of MENAPLN officers coaches and teachers promoting better inclusion and learning particularly for girls; and (2) more effective and inclusive management of basic education.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) equipped educational supervisors and teachers in 71 elementary school and post-primary establishments with strategies and tools for psychosocial support and inclusion; (2) trained 128 teachers and educational supervisors including 24 women and 104 men; (3) trained 39 educational supervisors and teachers including 12 women and 27 men in e-learning; (4) trained and supported 75 officers from the Department for the Promotion of Inclusive Education Girls' Education and Gender including 25 women and 50 men in gender analysis and gender-sensitive programming; (5) developed and transferred to government agents 22 strategies and tools to counter gender exclusion and early marriage; (6) developed and disseminated 14 strategies devices and tools to improve gender sensitivity with an aim to increase the capacity of the Ministry of Education Literacy and Promotion of National Languages to support improved learning particularly among girls; and (7) provided 120 managers of decentralized structures including 28 women and 92 men with advisory support and mentoring for the effective application of mechanisms and tools.
