Project Description

This project seeks to increase global health programming effectiveness including sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming. The Canadian Partnership for Women's and Children's Health (CanWaCH) implements this project. Project activities include: (1) hosting online knowledge exchange fora and an interactive database of international projects; (2) identifying Canadian experts to support improved measurement of results for Canadian efforts in developing countries; (3) promoting international standards in tracking and measuring results and facilitating related training opportunities; (4) supporting collaboration among organizations including civil society organizations academia and the private sector; and (5) providing Canadians with information on reproductive maternal newborn child and adolescent health through public engagement and/or outreach activities. The project expects to benefit the CanWaCH membership of over 90 Canadian organizations working to improve women's adolescents' and children's health in developing countries; ultimately benefiting women newborns children and adolescents targeted by the CanWaCH membership programming.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved use of data and evidence for gender transformative global health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) programming decisions and performance monitoring by the Canadian Partnership for Women's and Children's Health (CanWaCH) members including sex and age disaggregated data; (2) enhanced sharing of evidence tools and lessons learned among CanWaCH members involved in gender transformative global health and SRHR programming; and (3) sustained support and informed action by Canadians especially youth for gender transformative global health and SRHR issues.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2025 include: (1) the Project Explorer platform enhanced through improved stability and a database upgrade increasing the quality of analytics and resulting in 42.1% of CanWaCH member organizations using the tool to inform their work; (2) funded the implementation of 3 projects through the Canadian Collaborative for Global Health initiative. These projects are tackling urgent data challenges in sexual and reproductive health gender and nutrition data gaps and incubating potential solutions using multi-sectoral partnerships; (3) hosted 7 flagship events including the Healthy world conference in May 2024 and the 3rd annual CanWaCH Academy in November 2024 which together welcomed approximately 750 participants from CanWaCH member organizations and Canadian civil society organizations. These events featured 34 unique sessions covering topics such as integrating environmental considerations into health programming building effective partnerships gender-responsive climate financing worker protection policies and the intersection of climate gender and health; and (4) delivered a total of 9 Gender equality training modules to representatives from over 100 Canadian organizations working in global health. This training increased their capacity to deliver gender-transformative and rights-based approaches through their respective programming.
