Project Description

This project provides the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) with funding to provide technical assistance to 15 states in Latin America and the Caribbean Asia and the Pacific and Africa which have officially requested support to manage their inventories of high activity disused sealed radioactive sources (DSRS).

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) updated national registries of radioactive sources; (2) reviewed regulations on radiation safety and nuclear security; (3) established national policies and strategies for DSRS; (4) established temporary safe and secure storage of DSRS; (5) training provided for regulatory staff and facility operators: and (6) radioactive sources managed in line with identified options including the removal of 35 DSRS from Chile.
